St Gerard’s Film Group will be showing Entertaining Angels on Tuesday, 13th October at 6.45pm in St Gerard’s Church, upstairs room behind the altar.
The film tells the story of Dorothy Day, the American Catholic social activist and co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement. Sr Liz Dodd recently noted in The Tablet that Dorothy Day, “probably America’s best known Catholic political radical”, has moved a step closer to sainthood.
Dorothy herself once responded to such praise with the memorable words:
“Don’t call me a saint. I don’t want to be dismissed so easily.”
All welcome.
We were delighted to celebrate the presentation of the Benemerenti Medal, conferred by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on Mrs Briege Smyth in recognition of her lifetime of dedicated service to St Gerard’s Church and Parish. This prestigious papal honour is a fitting tribute to Briege’s faithful commitment, generosity and many years of service to our parish community.
The Benemerenti Medal was presented to Briege during the 10.30am Mass on Sunday, 6th September 2026. There was a wonderful turnout, with the church packed for this very special occasion, and we would like to thank everyone who attended and joined us afterwards to celebrate with Briege, her family and friends.
We thank Briege for her outstanding contribution to parish life and warmly congratulate her on this well-deserved honour.
Photos from the celebration can be viewed here.
Fr. Patrick O’Keefe CSsR ADM warmly welcomes you to our parish. Whether you are a long-time member of our community, new to the parish, or just visiting, we are delighted to have you with us. We invite you to join in worship, fellowship, and service as we journey together in faith.
You can also watch a message from Fr. Denis Luddy CSsR, who previously served in our parish, recorded during his time here.
St. Gerard’s Church has been at the heart of the local community since its founding in 1956. From its beginnings as a mission of the Redemptorist Order to its independence as a parish in 1969, St. Gerard’s has always been a place of worship, learning, and community spirit. The church continues to uphold its Redemptorist heritage, reaching out to all, especially those in need.
As part of the Redemptorist Order, St. Gerard’s remains committed to the mission of spreading the Gospel, particularly to those on the margins of society and the Church. The Redemptorists’ dedication to prayer, service, and community continues to inspire our work and outreach.
